The Moodlakatte Institute of Technology popularly known as MIT Kundapur was established in the year 2004 by Nagarathan Bhujanga Shetty, Shetty Trust. Having been inaugurated by T N Chaturvedi Governor of Karnataka. MIT is today emerging as one of the most reputed engineering colleges in coastal Karnataka by developing as a centre of excellence and imparting quality education in engineering.
MIT is located in the beautiful green belt of coastal Karnataka, just adjacent to the Kundapur Railway Station in Moodlakatte. It is 04 kilometers away from the town of Kundapur, 30 kilometers west from Kollur, 100 kilometers away to north from Mangaluru and 400 kilometers away from the state capital Bangaluru.
The college campus is spread over 20 acres of lush greenery, making it an ideal place for academic pursuits. The infrastructural requirements of the institute are state-of-the art and accommodating the changing needs of the student fraternity. MIT provides its students with the best of facilities in terms of food and accommodation with a hygienic canteen and well-maintained hostels.

The college has 5 graduate courses Electronics and Communication; Electrical and Electronics, Computer Science, Mechanical and a postgraduate course in MBA.
Late I M Jayaram Shetty Founder Chairman of Moodlakatte Institute of Technology was a man with a vision. A former member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and former Member of Parliament, he was a person of unblemished reputation. Well-known for his humanitarian projects, he was involved in several philanthropic activities. He expired after prolonged illness on May 15, 2014 at the age 63. After his death his son Siddarth J Shetty took charge as chairman of MIT.
Siddarth J Shetty the present chairman of MIT is determined in developing the institution with his new future prospects. His future prospects include scholarships for students and introducing of post-graduation course (M.Tech in Civil and Mechanical Engineering). A sport complex will add more colors to the institution and a sport complex will be constructed to support the budding sportsmen-sportswomen.
The institution has set a record of scoring cent percent results since its inception. The faculty is the guiding factor for the institutional progress; the experienced faculty is tasked with training the students with great determination and progressive education meeting industrial standards. The students from Uttar Karnataka, Hubli, Dharward, Chitradurga and Shivamogga study here. Siddarth expects the students to focus on their studies and feel like home.

The college has a special cell for training and placement/HRD programme. It offers training technical, soft skills and also prepares the students to face interviews successfully. It is an establishing link between the institution and industries to enhance the technical skill and expertise the students. The institute has achieved excellent placement record.
40 companies participated in the three placement drives conducted in 2008, 2011 and 2012. Students selected by various companies like Infosys, Flexi Resources Pvt. Ltd, Phenix Martime Pvt Ltd, Wipro, Robosoft Technologies, E.D.S Software, HP Company, Tech Mahindra, Satyam Computer, Sonata S/W Caritor, Bharati Shipyard, Innovators, L&T Info Tech, Unisys Global Service Assurgent Technologies, IWAVE, Global Edge Software etc.
Kundapur is the fastest growing town in Udupi district where access to technical education was limited as students used to approach Udupi for engineering. With MIT Kundapur taking the helm of training students in technical education the 50% of students in the institution are from Kundapur says Siddarth.
