Kundapur: Police Initiate Suo-Moto Case Over Misinformation Regarding Calf Injury
Kundapur: In a recent troubling incident, the Kota Police have initiated a Suo-moto case against multiple individuals for disseminating misleading information on social media, alleging that the tail of a calf was maliciously cut by an individual identified as a fanatic.
The controversy originated from a message that circulated widely on social media platforms, asserting that “the tail of a cow’s calf belonging to Nagesh Mayya, a resident of Bhagavati Road in Gundmi village of Brahmavar, was severed by fanatics.” In response, local police initiated an investigation led by the Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kota, who visited the Mayya residence to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident.
According to reports, on January 28 at approximately 2 PM, Nagesh Mayya and his wife, Ahalya, were at their home when an unfamiliar 60-year-old man approached them requesting assistance. Their refusal to provide financial help led the individual to leave the premises. Later that same day, at around 4 PM, while attending to the milking of their cow, Nagesh Mayya discovered that the calf was inadvertently injured when its mother stood on its tail.
As the calf rose, its tail became severed, leading to a misunderstanding later relayed to Nagesh Mayya’s son, Anil Mayya. Without a comprehensive understanding of the actual circumstances, Anil Mayya and others distorted the narrative, falsely claiming that “a fanatic salesman had come to the house and cut the calf’s tail.” This fabricated account was further exacerbated when they shared a photograph of the severed tail on social media.
Consequently, a case has been formally registered at the Kota Police Station against Anil Mayya and others involved for misleading the public and fostering disharmony, which could potentially incite unrest and compromise public peace and order. Authorities are calling for responsible behavior online to prevent the spread of misinformation and maintain communal harmony.
