Kundapur: Students Demand Probe in Akshatha’s Death Case – Sorake, Amrith Paul Assure Justice

Byndoor, Kundapur: Scores of students staged a protest in front of the Tahsildar’s Office demanding a speedy probe into the suspicious death of Akshatha Devadiga here, on June 18.

Students of Bhandarkars and BB Hegde College got down to the streets, shouting slogans against the district administration and the police department, they demanded a speedy and efficient probe into the suspicious death of college student Akshatha.

“Rathna Kotari was also found dead in July 2014, but the police department has not yet been unable to reach to any conclusion in her case as the probe is still going on. From the past one year, the police have failed to collect evidence. We do not want Akshatha’s case also to be delayed. We need the culprits behind Akshatha’s death to be found and punished.”

ABVP President Jayaprakash said that the death of Ratna Kotari and Akshatha has created fear in the minds of the people, especially female students. “Police should take such issues seriously and make it a priority to find out the culprits and the cause of death.”

Gayathri Nayak, Tahashildar and Taluk Magistrate, Kundapur received the memorandum submitted by the students and assured them of taking all the necessary steps to investigate the case.

Vinay Kumar Sorake, Minister for Urban Development and Minister in-charge District, met the family members of Akshatha and assured them justice. He also visited the Forensic Science Department, Manipal.

Later speaking to the mediapersons, Minister Sorake said that the police department has initiated a speedy probe into the case. “Every fact and evidence will be thoroughly investigated by the investigating officers. The Forensic Science Department will furnish the autopsy report in the next 3 days.”

“There has been a rise in crimes in Kundapur which will be curbed by initiating stringent action after discussing with the administration and police department,” he added.

Amrith Paul, Inspector General of Police, Western Range inspected the crime scene along with Annamalai K, District Superintendent of Police. He later visited Akshatha’s house and consoled the family members.

 

 

Speaking to the mediapersons, Amrith Paul said that two teams have been formed to investigate the case. “We are waiting for the autopsy report from the Forensic Science Department. A speedy and thorough probe has been initiated into the case,” he added.
