New Delhi, Nov 25 (IANS) La Liga will on December 3 be hosting live screening in Delhi and Mumbai of the Spanish football league’s showpiece match — the “El Clasico” between traditional rivals FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The live screening of sporting events on a giant screen is popular in Europe and La Liga, which has recently launched its India office here, will be organising the event with the aim of popularising the league in the country.
The evening will include giant screens, food and beverage stalls as well as fan engagement activities at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here and Khar Gymkhana in Mumbai.
Former La liga star Luis Garcia will be present in New Delhi while Frederic Kanoute will attend the Mumbai screening.
Commenting on the event, La liga President Javier Tebas said in a release: “Our aim is to take La Liga all across the world, and further establish the league as one that is global and inclusive. We feel that the most important way to grow is to be closer to our fans, and provide tem with newer, more exciting experiences.”
“Both Real Madrid and Barcelona enjoy huge popularity in India and we feel that we owe the passionate fans of the league, a chance to experience such an event. This is a big step, and what we believe will be a great start to our journey in India,” he added.
