Mangalore Ladies Beauty Association All Geared Up to Promote, Protect, Practice, Propagate and Upgrade Beautician Trade

Mangaluru: What action has been taken so far by the concerned authorities on those engaging in the occupation of cosmetology/beautician, without being licensed or registered to do so by the board, and who have been engaged in or practicing that for years. Nothing, so far. The unlicensed activities by such beauticians are a menace and a nuisance dangerous to the public health, safety, and welfare. So in order to bring awareness about the use of substandard or home made cosmetics in some unauthorized beauty parlours and exerting pressure to ban such products, and also to put an end to non-licensed beauticians in carrying on that trade which really hurts the businesses of registered beauty parlors/salons, an association namely “Mangalore Ladies Beauty Association (MLBA)” was formed by the owners of authorized/registered ladies in the year 2014. And while stepping into their fourth year, the Association is planning their Annual General Body Meeting with Cultural Programme on Sunday, 10 September 2017 at Yuva Vahini Sabhangana, Urwa Store-Mangaluru, where MCC Mayor Kavitha Sanil will the Chief Guest.

Addressing the media persons, Pauline Saldanha-president of MLBA said, ” Our establishing this Association with an objective to unite the beauty parlour owners in and around Mangaluru to achieve our motto and solve our problems. Our main objective is to provide better quality of life, and create awareness about health and hygiene in our girls and thereby improve they beauty. We the members of the Association firmly believe and think that after a year’s sustained groundwork, MLBA has come into being to fulfill its objectives and motto “.

Saldanha further said, ” The Salient features of our objectives/motto are :To unite the girls and providing them with opportunities to exhibit their skills; Providing a platform for the girls to showcase their abilities; To strive for the up-liftment of those involved in the trade without any monetary benefits; To organize training programmes and workshops to beauticians to develop their skills; and striving for the well being of women and girls. We want to create awareness about the norms and precautions laid down by the Health Department of the City Corporation in carrying out the trade (e.g., washing the equipment in hot water and maintaining hygiene); We have noticed that supplying of cosmetics directly to the women instead of through beauty parlours has been going on rampantly. The association would work hard to prevent such kind of unethical practice. We would also come forward to conduct training and also provide skilled beauticians through the association if there is shortage of beauticians. We will also bring awareness in the beauticians about the newer cosmetics being advertised in the media as regards to their pros and cons, and urging them to use only the best cosmetics in the business “.

Before concluding she said, ” Many beauticians who are unskilled and lack knowledge about the trade have been carrying out beautician work at the homes of the customers. The main objective of the association is to stop such practice by creating awareness about the trade in those girls and train them to be better beauticians. The association would aim to create awareness in them about the ill effect of such practices. By doing so the association wishes to unite the women entrepreneurs owning beauty parlours and salons in and around Mangaluru. Further, the association would work towards obtaining government recognition to the beautician business and thereby provide healthy and hygienic beautyparlours even in the villages. We request all women entrepreneurs to join hands in fulfilling these objectives of the association”.

Other members of the Association present on the dais during the press meet were- Sharada Suresh-Vice President; Anitha Amin- Gen. Secretary; Ramya P D- Asst. Gen. Secretary; and Winnie C Pinto- Treasurer
