Lalit Modi threatens to take Rahul Gandhi to UK court for Modis are thieves jibe

Lalit Modi has threatened to take Rahul Gandhi to court in the UK for a controversial comment the Congressman recently made about the Modi surname.

Rahul Gandhi asked at a recent election rally in Maharashtra why “all the thieves have Modi in their names”, specifically accusing Lalit Modi, the diamantaire Nirav Modi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “We don’t know how many more such Modis will come out,” he said.

On Friday, Lalit Modi said on Twitter he would go to court in the UK against the Congress president, and accused his family of “looting” India for five decades.

“Kaun chor kaun chowkidar — you decide,” he wrote.

Lalit Modi is the former chairman of the Indian Premier League. He left India after being charged with money laundering.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tore into Rahul Gandhi for his comment on the Modi surname, saying the Congress and its allies “have not kept any shortcomings in abusing of my backward caste”.

“This time they have crossed the limits and abused the entire backward society,” PM Modi said.

“The Congress has been defaming me for several years over my backward community background,” PM Modi said. “I am used to such bashing. Now, they are blaming the entire community while defaming me. If you dare to defame a community, I will not tolerate it,” he said.
