Land acquisition: special court issues arrest warrant against DC Priyanka Mary

Udupi: The Karnataka land acquisition special court has issued a bailable arrest warrant against Priyanka Mary Francis deputy commissioner of Udupi district.

The special court has issued the arrest warrant order through the Western Range IGP office as she did not appear before the court for enquiry.

A complaint was registered in the Karnataka land acquisition special court that as many as 8700 acres land was encroached in the district. The court instructed the district administration to conduct an enquiry. According to the district administrations enquiry, it was proved that 4000 acres of land was encroached. The court has asked for clarifications by appearing before the court. The court has sent notices since 2017 and the deputy commissioner had failed to appear personally before the court. The court has noticed that the district commissioner has disobeyed the court notice and issued a fresh bailable arrest warrant against the deputy commissioner. As per the bailable arrest warrant, the Deputy Commissioner should appear personally before the court with a bond of Rs 10000 and surety.

When Mangalorean.com contacted deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis she said that this is a bailable arrest warrant. I am personally appearing before the court on March 13 for the enquiry. The Tahsildars of the every Taluk have registered cases in the civil court against the encroachment of land. The court has also sent summons to the Thashildars to appear before the court, but they too have failed to appear. Now the court has issued a warrant against me, I will appear before the court on March 13, she said.
