Puttur: Laxman Nimbargi, an IPS officer, will hold the charge of Uppinangady police station for three months as part of his 3-month probation. He has assumed the charge on Thursday.
Speaking to mediapersons, he laid a focus on the need to instill a spirit of social service among the students in particular and mould them into leaders. A campaign would soon be launched from Uppinangady, he said.
This had been the dream of the district SP. An programme to create awareness among the students on subjects like traffic management, POCSO Act and drug abuse would be taken up in the near future, he indicated.
He added that students would be given an opportunity to take part in parades, so that they could imbibe discipline in their lives. This would enable them to become better citizens.
He also said that students’ help would be taken up in cases of natural disaster and for crowd management during festive occasions.
Nimbargi hailed from Indi in Vijayapura district, but currently settled in Hubballi, where he pursued Engineering studies and appeared for UPSC examinations in 2014. After appointment, he served in Bantwal town station for some time.
