Let BJP give Ticket to Koti Chennaya Community to Contest Parliament Elections – Congress
Mangaluru: The Congress party workers staged a protest in front of the DC office on January 16, against the BJP for misusing the photographs of Koti Chennaya in the publicity banner.
Addressing the protesters District Congress President Harish Kumar said, “The BJP is dividing the Society in the name of Hindutva. If they are thinking that they can win the elections by using Koti Chennaya photographs in the publicity banners, it is their dream which will not be fulfilled. After the BJP came to power in the centre, poor people are facing severe problems. We condemn the cheap politics being played by the BJP to please the backward community for vote bank. If the BJP has real concern for the Koti Chennaya community let they give them the opportunity to contest the Parliamentary elections”.
Harish Kumar further said, “Before coming to power the BJP leaders had given many assurances but have not fulfilled even one percent of them. In the name of constructing Ram Mandir, BJP leaders collected funds which were later spent for the election campaign. They even tried to play politics in the Deyi Baidethi issue in Padumale. Now they are using the photographs of Koti Chennaya for vote bank. So far the BJP has not given any opportunity for the Koti Chennaya community, but when the elections are nearing, the BJP is misusing the photographs of Koti Chennaya on the publicity banners and trying to please the community. How come all of a sudden the BJP has so much love and concern towards the Koti Chennaya community. We need to ask, what the BJP has done for the backward community? How many from the backward community have been given the opportunity to contest the parliamentary elections? The BJP has misused the backward community youth and forced them to indulge in communal violence which has sent them to jail. The Congress party has given every chance for the backward community to contest the elections whereas the BJP has only misused the backward community for political gain.”
Harish Kumar also said, “The BJP is creating communal violence in the district, their party workers are involved in the killing of the innocent and targetting the district Minister In-charge. Because Ramanath Rai is a secular person, the BJP is targetting him. Ramanath Rai is the backbone of the party in Dakshina Kannada and the BJP is hellbent in targetting him by creating unfounded rumours against him. The BJP has no concern for the development work and they cannot digest the development work done by the Congress party in the state.”
Addressing the protesters Minister Ramanath Rai said, “We condemn BJP for using the photographs of Koti Chennaya in their publicity banner. Now all of a sudden the BJP is showing concern towards the backward community by printing Koti Chennaya’s photograph on their publicity banners. The Congress party has given many opportunities to the backward community to contest in the Parliament, Assembly elections and the MCC elections but so far the BJP has not given any opportunity for the backward community to contest the Parliament elections. The Congress government led by CM Siddaramaiah has sanctioned Rs 5 crore for the conservation and preservation of the birthplace of Koti Chennaya at Padumale. The medicinal park in the name of Deyi Baideti was also constructed at Padumale. We had requested to celebrate the Sri Narayana Guru Jayanti and the CM granted permission to celebrate the Jayanti. A person who was in the Congress and was using foul language against Modi is now praising the BJP and putting false allegations on me. Shame on him, he has joined the BJP for political gains.”
Ramanath Rai further said, “In both the Harish Poojary and Ashraf murder case, the advocate who is contesting the case in favour of the accused is the same. The people of the district are not fools, we have trust in God and he is watching everything. After the Congress party came to power in the state we have done the highest development work which the BJP cannot digest.”
Chief Whip Ivan D’Souza and Kodijal Ibrahim also spoke onthe occasion. Mayor Kavitha Sanil, District Youth Congress president Mithun Rai, Sashidhar Hegde and others were also present.
