Let Opposition Assist me in Disconnecting Illegal water Connections and Raid on Massage Parlours – Mayor Kavitha

Mangaluru: “We have identified the land for the construction of Indira Canteens. The state government will provide 30% funds and the Mangaluru City Corporation will invest 70% of the funds to construct the Indira Canteens in 5 places. From next week the work will begin and in January the Indira Canteens will be opened for public. We have identified the places to start the Indira Canteen, Adjacent to Street Vendors yard opposite Lady Goschen, Government Recreation Grounds Attavar, Derebail Village, Kunjathbail and Idya Suratkal”, said Mayor Kavitha Sanil in a press meet held at her office, MCC here on November 14.

Addressing the mediapersons Kavitha Sanil said, “We have disconnected 38 water connections and have identified other water connections which are still pending for payment. We have started disconnecting the water connections in the City limits. I urge the consumers of Mangaluru to pay the water bills on time. Many of the citizens have still not paid the property tax. So far we have received only 42% of the payment. Even the trade licences have not been renewed. If the citizens of Mangaluru do not pay the tax on time, it will be difficult to carry out development work. I hereby request the citizens of Mangaluru to pay the property tax online since we have made it easy for the people to pay property tax online. People should make use of the facilities.”

Kavitha Sanil further said, “The opposition has alleged that I have raided only one massage parlour to get publicity. I want the opposition to come along with me during the raid since they too have the responsibility. Instead of accusing me, let the opposition identify the illegal water connections, massage parlours etc and assist me in taking action. The opposition corporators inform me about the illegal massage parlours operating in the city, I request them to accompany me during the raids.”

Kavitha Sanil also said that due to technical reasons, we will not be able to provide water supply to the citizens of Mangaluru on November 15 and requested all to co-operate.

Deputy Mayor Rajaneesh Kapikad, Sashidhar Hegde, Sabitha Misquith and MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer were also present.
