Life Imprisonment for Accused in Shrimati Shetty Murder Case

Mangaluru: The First Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced the main accused in the Shrimati Shetty murder case to life imprisonment. The case had created widespread outrage in the coastal region.

On May 11, 2019, Shrimati Shetty was murdered in Sootarpete area in Valencia. The victim had visited the accused, John Samson’s, residence to collect chit-fund money when he attacked and killed her with a stick. Later, her body was chopped into 29 pieces and disposed of in various parts of the city.

John Samson and his wife, Victoria, were found guilty of the crime. Judge Mallikarjun Swamy sentenced the couple to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000.

Additionally, Raju, the third accused who aided in the murder, was sentenced to six months of simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000. Since Raju has already served six months in jail, he is likely to be released soon.

Government pleader Judit Olga Margaret Crasta argued on behalf of the victim.
