Life Threat to Khader, Police Commissioner Should File Suo-Motu Case – DCC
Mangaluru: “There is a lot of confusion about the CAA and people do not have proper knowledge about it. On February 6, we have organized a workshop for the Congress party workers about CAA from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, three speakers will deliver the speeches. Former speaker and senior leader Ramesh Kumar and Social activist Bhavya Narasimha Murthy will deliver the speech for 45 minutes each. After the speech, there will be an interaction. Party workers are requested to attend in large numbers”, said the DCC President Harish Kumar in a press meet held at the Congress Bhavan, Mallikatta here on January 29.
Addressing the mediapersons Harish Kumar said, “After the BJP came to power in our district many goons have been openly giving life threats to our leaders. Recently during the defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to Mangaluru, some youth were giving life threat to our former minister and MLA U T Khader and were also using foul language. U T Khader is a secular leader and giving life threat to such a leader shows who are actually involved in terrorism. When anyone speaks against the BJP they are called as anti-nationals. What should we call those who are giving life threats? Last year Ramanath Rai had also received life threats and now U T Khader is getting life threats. I request the police commissioner to file suo-motu cases against those who had given life threats to Khader. We will give 15 days time for the police department to file suo-motu cases, if they fail to do so we will stage a protest in front of the police commissioner’s office”.
Harish Kumar further said, “After the BJP came to power the opposition has no safety. Congress is trying to unite the people but BJP is trying to divide the society. BJP is trying to snatch the rights of the people. It is not giving importance to the development of the country. The BJP is teaching patriotism to others, but they themselves should learn to be patriotic by respecting the constitution.”
Harish Kumar also said, “The workshop is to bring awareness about CAA among the people. Whenever our party workers visit the people, they should have a good knowledge of CAA. Whenever anyone asks a question about CAA, our party workers should be able to explain. The Prime minister has said that they will discuss implementing the CAA but there is no clarity about it. The central government is in a hurry to implement new acts, instead of taking the decision in the parliament, they should discuss with the concerned authorities. To collect the documents needed to be provided for CAA, one year will not be enough. CAA is another programme of making people stand in the queue. In our country, people are facing a lot of problems to get their ration card, how they will get the documents for the CAA?”
When asked whether the Congress filing cases against those had given life threat to Khader, Harish Kumar said, “We will not file a case now, we will give 15 days for the police commissioner to file suo-motu cases. If they will fail to act, we will stage a protest in front of the police commissioner’s office”.
Former MLAs Shakuntala Shetty and J R Lobo, former Mayors Sashidhar Hegde and Kavitha Sanil, Ibrahim Kodijal and others were also present.
