Mangaluru: As they say that “Every Ending Has a New Beginning”, nearly 800 Juniors at the St Aloysius College Higher Primary School, Mangaluru bid farewell to the outgoing VII std students, who had their seven-year of education at this prestigious school. The 154 VII std were led in a procession by the School Marching Band, along with the special dignitaries for the occasion, and they all entered the hall, they received a standing ovation from the audience comprising of their parents, teachers and their juniors at school.
“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever “- this quote from Mahatma Gandhi has a universal appeal for those who are about to move forward to a new higher academic experience. “To accomplish great things, we must not only act but also dream, not only dream, but also believe.” – this quote by Anatole France combines the necessity of both faith and hard work as a road to success for all these prospective High School students. A farewell function was organized on 28 March 2018 at the School Auditorium, to bid adieu to the 154 VII std outgoing students.
The programme began with the inauguration by lighting of the lamp by the chief guest-Ms Vinitha Mathias- Principal at the Deralakatte/Kannachur CBSE School,a along with guests of honor-Fr Leo D’souza Sj -Former Rector, St Aloysius Institutions; Fr Eric Mathias Sj- Director of the School; Ms Philomena Lewis-Headmistress of the School; Loy Noronha- Vice President School PTA; and Ms Blanche D’Almeida- School Senior Teacher {to be felicitated for her 20 plus years of teaching service}, followed by invoking Lord Almighty’s blessings through a prayer song rendered by 7th std students.
The junior students of 5th and 6th standard welcomed their seniors with a traditional dance reflecting the elegance of our cultural roots, followed by welcome address by Mr Liya D’souza-Assistant Headmaster of the School. Three outgoing students namely Janani, Vernon Lee and Vivek Vaidya spoke about their experiences at the School, and all the three expressed their gratitude to the management, teachers and staff for nurturing them to be good students, and owed their success to their best school n the City. Their messages imparted “Live Life to the Fullest”, gave the audience a glimpse of values instilled in them of sharing, caring, friendship and hard work while at school. It was an emotional moment as the students recollected their memories. The juniors group sang a touching farewell song.
Also on the occasion, Ms Blanche D’Almeida, who taught at the school for 20 plus years was felicitated, along with Ms Sunitha Moras {Office Staff}; Ms Joylene {KG Teacher}; and Ms Ambika {3 yr service}. Ms Blanche in her acceptance speech owed her gratitude to the management and her colleagues for their support and encouragement, and also thanked the students for being the best and good students with full of moral, respect and character. Headmistress Ms Philomena administered the oath to the outgoing students to be God-fearing and good students as they climb their ladder of higher education.
The chief guest Ms Vinitha Mathias and guest of honor Fr Leo D’souza Sj in their speeches to the students encouraged them to learn the good morals, respect the adults, follow the rules of the institution, and urged them while they leave their Alma Mater, not to forget the teachers who had nurtured them and given them the best education and who also cared and loved them. As a mark of remembrance, mementoes were given to the outgoing students by the VII std teachers. We dance for laughter, we dance for tears, we dance for madness, we dance for fear, we dance for hopes, we dance for dreams… and through dance, the whole being depicts the emotions we all intend to express. And for that matter, the junior students enthralled the audience by their rhythmic movements set to the vernacular beats.
The vote of thanks was proposed by the School Headmistress, and the entire programme was compered by Ms Chitra Kini and Harish. The programme was an indeed memorable one. The beautiful and joyous day ended with sweet memories of life, sharing together the lunch along with the teachers arranged by the school Management.
