Like-minded Youth Strive to increase Green Cover through Unique Cycle Jatha
Udupi: For a clean environment, fresh air and water, à team of like minded youth called Sastana Mithraru in association with Githananda Foundation and Udupi district Nagarika Samithi have organised a year-long Green Awareness cycle Jatha across the district to create awareness among the people about the importance of clean environment.
The Cycle Jatha was officially launched on Friday, December 29, by Priyanka Mary Francis deputy commissioner of Udupi District along with Dinakar Babu President Udupi Zilla Panchayat and Devaraj Pana forest officer Udupi.
According to Vinay Chandra team member of Sasthana Mitraru, the aim of the rally s to sensitize the public, youth and students the need to ensure a clean, green and healthy Udupi district and to continually utilize the services of the participants to make Udupi district a role model in the efforts of promoting greenery.
A specially designed cycle was donated by Nithyananda Volakadu president of Udupi district Nagarika Samithi. All the team members are working for various companies. Every Sunday team members move from one place to another plating saplings. We also request the local people of the area to taken care of the saplings. Our main intention is the protection of the environment, he added.
The purpose of planting the saplings is to create awareness for safeguarding the environment and evoke emotional bonding with the people. The team aims at reaching out to a maximum number of people in the district. The saplings planted will be monitored by keeping in touch with the owners. The team would keep track of saplings planted. The team has taken the support of the Forest Office to get the saplings, he said.
