Little Girl gets New Lease of Life after Treatment by Doctors at A J Hospital
Mangaluru: Six year old Suma (name changed) was brought to the A J Hospital, Mangaluru with complaints of the poor weight gain and getting very tired while running and playing. During her early childhood, she had frequent cough and fever and used to visit the local doctor often. She was evaluated by Paediatric Cardiologist Dr. Prem Alva and diagnosed to have a rare congenital heart defect called Aorta-Pulmonary Window. It is an abnormal connection between two blood vessels arising from the heart. She was taken up for non-surgical treatment of the same. Device Closure of the heart defect was done by Dr Prem Alva supported by the cardiac anaesthesia team of Dr Gururaj Tantry and Dr. Suhas.
The child was discharged within two days. She is now able to go to school and play with her friends without any symptoms. This is the first time the rare procedure is done in coastal Karnataka. Since the family could not afford treatment, the procedure was done free of cost to the patient under the government scheme.
