Mangaluru: A huge liver cancer weighing 3 kg was successfully removed in A J Hospital & Research Centre by a team of Surgical Gastroenterologists (Dr Ashwin Alva & Dr Rohan Shetty).
A 68-year-old patient hailing from Uttara Kannada district presented with complaints of loss of weight and appetite. A CT scan confirmed large cancer (Hepatocellular cancer) in the right side of the liver. He underwent surgery (Right hepatectomy) successfully and was cured of the disease.

Alpha feto protein pre op needs to serve as a baseline marker. Follow up should include periodic AFP.If recurrence or metastasis become apparent, one has the option of introducing Nexavar.
