Local Elections Prove People Want Congress, BJP Must Give Up Govt. Claim – MLC Ivan D’souza
Mangaluru: “After the Lok Sabha elections, local body elections were held. In this election, the people who voted for BJP in the Lok Sabha elections have also voted for Congress here. During the Lok Sabha elections, there was no discussion on development projects and regional issues troubling the voters. Instead, they (BJP) only discussed religious issues and asked for votes in the name of Indian soldiers. For all of them who campaigned only on these issues, the voters in the local body election have taught them a lesson. It has revealed their position. The Ganga Scheme, Krishi Scheme, and loan waivers to farmers have made the voters want Congress in the state and local levels” said MLC and Parliamentary Secretary Ivan D’Souza in a press meet held at the MCC Building, Lalbagh here, on June 4.
Addressing the mediapersons Ivan D’Souza said, “The people who used to question the mandate of the people, they have to learn from the local body election verdict. They only used to view the sea; they didn’t see the hand in the sea. That is why the BJP cannot recover in Karnataka. If the discussions had been based on development and regional issues, the Lok Sabha election results would have been different. After the local body election results, the BJP must give up trying to claim the government. They say that the BJP has a lot of mandate in this state. However, in the Vidhan Sabha elections the BJP only received 36 percent of the vote share. Meanwhile, the Congress secured 38 percent of the vote share while JDS received over 19 percent. In the local body elections, the Congress party received 46 percent of the vote share while the BJP got less than 30 percent of the vote share. Even in the general elections, 21 crore people might have voted for the BJP but over 12.5 crore people have also voted for the Congress.”
Ivan further said, “Till now, our coalition government has distributed 400 crore rupees through various schemes. Funds for drinking water issues, farmer issues, new borewells, and water irrigation purposes have been renewed. It shows that this is an active government. When there is a water crisis, the Central Government must help us. We have spent 490 crore rupees to solve the water crisis. They have not even told us to stop our expenditure. I want to appeal to Srinivas Poojary and Yeddyurappa to take a delegation to Delhi and get some funds for the state from the Central government.”
