Local Manhandled by Congress Councillors during CMC meeting
(Updates) Councillor Geetha Shet together with Rony D’Mello had inaugurated the road without the presence of Minister Pramod Madhwaraj and other officials which had irked the Congress Councillors. Geetha Shet had called Rony D’Mello to the CMC meeting to clarify the issue. While Rony entered the meeting hall, he was manhandled by the Congress councillors.
“We the opposition leaders bow our head in shame after manhandling a person who had come to the CMC meeting on the request of a councillor”, said CMC Councillor Herga Dinakar Shetty. Any person can view the proceedings of the CMC Meeting and for the same, there is a provision in the Municipal Act. Rony D’Mello was called by Geetha Shet of Congress to clarify her stand on a construction project. The CMC members who stopped him from making his point pushed and even manhandled him. This action has insulted the CMC, protests will be held to initiate action against the behaviour of the councillors, he added.
CMC President Meenakshi Madhav Bannaje clarifying her stand said, “Geetha Shet has presented her resignation letter, the BJP councillors supported her, and an unknown person entered the meeting hall, the ruling party councillors then pushed him aside. No general public is allowed into the meeting hall, on suspicion, the councillors pushed him aside. The BJP members instead of supporting the president who is a woman are supporting an unknown person who entered the hall.”
While she was quizzed over the assault on the person she said that the councillors had stopped him from approaching the president. She also assured to take action.lĺ
Councillor Ramesh Kanchan said, “The person was not assaulted but he had tried to push me. The BJP is using councillor Geetha Shet and taking advantage of the situation”.
Councillor Yuvraj who has also served as the president said that the general public is not allowed to view the proceedings of the house.

Udupi: A local was manhandled by the Ruling Party Councillors at the City Municipal Council meeting here on June 29.
On June 29, the CMC meeting was held and the issue of road construction ruled the meeting. Councillor Geetha Shet together with Rony D’Mello had inaugurated the road without the presence of Minister Pramod Madhwaraj and other officials which had irked the Congress Councillors. During the CMC meeting, Councillor Geetha Shet submitted her resignation to the president giving the reason that she was being neglected by other councillors in the Padigar road work issue.
During the meeting, Geetha Shet brought with her some of the locals from her ward. But other councillors objected to it. The councillors then manhandled Rony D’Mello who came to the meeting hall in support of councillor Geetha Shet.
Later the Udupi police arrived and provided protection to continue the meeting.
