Lokayukta Vishwanath Shetty pays Surprise Visit to Udupi Govt Dist Hospital

Udupi: Karnataka Lokayukta Vishwanath Shetty along with other officials made a surprise visit to the District Hospital Ajjarkad Udupi here on Saturday, June 23.

Justice Vishwanath Shetty visited various wards and departments of the hospital and interacted with the hospital staff as well as the patients.

Later speaking to mediapersons, Vishwanath Shetty said, “As a Lokayukta, I often visit government hospitals and check the prevailing system there. Today, I visited the Udupi district Government Hospital and have not found any major complaints in the hospital. All the departments in the Hospital have been maintained well. Normally, I collect the information of every government hospital from the Lokayukta Police of every district.”

“My first priority is to focus on providing good health care services to the people and provide education to the poor children. As such, I visit most of the state hospitals and try to find out any shortcomings or problems. By visiting the hospitals, I can understand the problems and bring it to the notice of the government. During my visit, I have learnt that there are a large number of poor patients coming to the hospital for treatment. The Doctors of Government hospital are providing good service to the patients here,” he said.

“In private hospitals, one doctor treats about 10 patients but in Government hospitals, 100 patients are treated in a day. Many times, the doctors face the pressure of work. Everyone should appreciate the service of government doctors. The public should join hands to develop government hospitals. The Udupi District hospital is facing a shortage of doctors in some departments. I will report the shortcomings to the government and request to fill the vacant posts of doctors soon,” he added.
