Lone Lady Bus Passenger reaches her Destination with Police Escort?

Mangaluru: This is what you call ‘Woman Power!’–Here is the story as revealed by the Mangaluru East Traffic Police- A lady commuter had boarded bus route no 15 plying from Surathkal to Mangaladevi, at Nanthoor at 8.15 pm, and paid the ticket price to her destination near Mangaladevi Temple. However, when the bus reached Kankanady, and since this lady was the lone passenger on the bus, the conductor asked her to get down at Kankanady and make her own arrangement to reach Mangaladevi. the lady passenger refused to alight.

When the driver and conductor were reluctant to take the lady to her final destination, she immediately called ACP -Traffic Tilakchandra on his mobile phone and complained that the conductor was forcing her to alight at Kankanady and take another bus to the temple, though she had purchased ticket till the last stop. Immediately ACP Tilakchandra alerted Traffic East Police Station sub-Inspector RK Gowhar, who immediately rushed to Kankanady. SI Gowhar directed the driver to complete the trip but the conductor claimed that he had made alternative arrangements to take the lady passenger.

But SI Gowhar insisted that the bus driver and conductor take the lady to her final destination and also follow the guidelines of the bus permit and warned of taking strict action if the same mistake is committed again. SI Gowhar followed the bus in his vehicle till the temple to make sure that the lady passenger reached her destination safely. Later, he registered a case against the owner of the bus under the provisions of Indian Motor Vehicles Act for alleged violation of permit conditions.

As per ACP Tilakchandra it is learnt that the homemaker sent a message thanking the police for the prompt response and ensuring her safe return. ACP also complimented his staff who did a good job through their swift action. It is the duty of the bus conductor and driver to take all passenger, even if there is a single passenger left, till their destination once they operate the bus service in the scheduled route. Forcing passengers to alight from the bus in the middle of the route claiming lone or less passenger is violations of permit guidelines. The permit can also be cancelled if bus operators violate their permit guidelines, has stressed ACP Tilkachandra.

This is a very good example for other bus passenger, ladies or gents- all it takes is to make a quick phone call to the police if you encounter any problems while traveling in the bus, either with the driver or conductor of the bus. Team Mangalorean compliments this lady for her bold step in taking the bus conductor to the task. Good job, Ma’am!
