Low Key 73rd I-Day celebrations in DK, DC Senthil Hoists National Flag
Mangaluru: For the first time after many years, the Deputy commissioner Sasikanth Senthil hoisted the national flag at Nehru Maidan here on August 15.
As per the protocol, the District Minister In-charge hoists the tricolor flag on Independence day. But as Chief Minister Yeddyurappa was unable to expand his cabinet even after 20 days of being sworn in as CM, the flag hoisting has been done by the Deputy commissioners at the District level.
The Chief Secretary of the government had issued a circular saying that the Deputy commissioners will hoist the National flag at the district level. Authorities were also informed to celebrate Independence Day in a simple manner as the state suffered severe flooding affecting a number of people who lost their houses and property.
The Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil hoisted the Indian tricolour flag at 9 am, later he received the guard of honour.
Various teams from Karnataka Reserve police, civil police, home guards, Traffic police, NCC, Scouts, Guides and police band demonstrated a colourful march-past.

We cannot measure the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi in the freedom struggle. His sacrifice and his words are the source of inspiration for all of us. It is our duty to remember the soldiers who are working relentlessly in the hot sun and rains on the borders to save us from our enemies. As you know in Dakshina Kannada we have witnessed heavy rains and many have lost their property and houses. The NDRF along with other teams joined hands with the district administration in the rescue operations. I would like to thank them for their relentless service in rescue operations in flooded areas. I also assure the flood victims that the district administration is with them”.
