Low-lying Areas in Kundapur and Byndoor Flood as Heavy Rains Lash, Normal Life Disrupted
Kundapur: The Kundapur and Byndoor Taluk of Udupi district have received heavy rains for two days. Following the incessant rain, stormwater drains have overflowed.
The low-lying areas have submerged on both sides of Talluru, Hemmady, Trasi, and other parts of the Taluk. As rainwater entered the houses, people were shifted to safer areas in some places. Most of the roads in the Taluk were in ankle-deep water due to either drains being full or lack of drains.
Navunda, Padukone, Badakere, Senapura and other parts of the Taluk experienced artificial flooding. The water level in Chakra, Kubja and Varahi rivers have increased. Sea erosion has intensified at Kodi, Gangolli Maravanthe and other coastal areas. Huge boulders dumped to check sea erosion have also been washed away.
