Lucky Escape for Fishermen as Fishing Boat Collides into Ship MV Chenaya Naree

Mangaluru: On March 31, the Coastal Guard police station received information by the coast guard that a ship named MV Chenaya Naree from Singapore and Jala Padmavati fishing Boat belonging to Srinivas Salian, collided at Suratkal on March 29.

On March 31, a damaged fishing boat Jala Padmavati II, registration number IND-KA-01-MM-3712, was found near Bengre. On March 29, between 00.20 to 01.00 am, fishing boat Jala Padmavati had collided into a ship MV Chenaya Naree from Singapore 20 miles away from the New Mangalore Port Breakwaters.

The ship MV Chenaya Naree transporting goods from Singapore to Colombo at the time of the incident. Luckily all the 9 fishermen on the fishing boat Jala Padmavati escaped without injuries. The boat was badly damaged in the collision.

The SP of CSP Malpe said, “To avoid such incidents, fishing boats should install Automatic Identification System (AIS) and navigation lights should be fixed on both the sides of the boat. In an emergency, fishermen should call 1093 and inform the control room.
