Lucky Escape for Residents as House Collapses at Attavar, Mayor Kavitha Visits

Mangaluru: The Mayor Kavitha Sanil rushed to Attavar as soon as she received a call from Corporator Vinay Raj about a house being collapsed at Attavar here on July 13.

Due to incessant rain, a house in Attavar colony collapsed. As soon as Mayor Kavitha Sanil received a call from the Corporator at 8:10 pm, she rushed to the spot.

Speaking to mangalorean.com Corporator Vinay Raj said, “From thirty years more than 23 families reside here. This land belongs to the Railways. The Railways has asked all those living in the colony to vacate. I had earlier spoken to MLA J R Lobo to provide housing to those living in the colony. MLA Lobo has got the land sanctioned to them in Shaktinagar. MLA has also directed the concerned authorities to complete the work soon. As soon as the construction work is completed all the 23 families will be shifted to Shaktinagar.”

Speaking to mangalorean.com Kavitha Sanil said, “Corporator Vinay Raj informed me about a house being collapsed in Attavar. When I reached here, I was shocked to see the state in which the people are living here in the heart of the city. The houses are very old and these families are residing here from the past 30 years. When the house collapsed, fortunately, the family members were not at home. We will find a solution to help the family. Property documents are necessary to sanction the funds but since this land belongs to the Railways, those living here do not have any documents. I will do my best to help them. I have already instructed our team to temporarily repair the house so that they can live there until the constructing of houses in Shaktinagar is completed.”
