M G Hegde Calls to Accept Social Concern Challenge ‘Reuse of Water’

Mangaluru: Social activist M G Hegde held a press meet to call on the citizens of the city to accept the social concern challenge “Reuse of Water”, at Hotel Dinki Dine, Kadri here on June 20.

Addressing the mediapersons, M G Hegde said, “In our country, we do not see any revolutions that used to happen earlier. Lately, we have been seeing various challenges on the social media like the health fitness challenge, book reading competitions, etc. My challenge is for the benefit of all and is called the “Social Concern Challenge”. Those who have social concern, I respect them and ask them to be part of this challenge and an inspiration to the youth. I have posted a concept on Facebook, “why can I not include rural development, social, environment, education in this concept?” Many of my friends liked the challenge and have joined hands to move forward.”

M G Hegde further said, “Advocates can also start a challenge by helping those who are facing jail terms for silly crimes and are unable to pay the penalty. If some of the advocates start helping such people and release them, they can challenge other advocates to do the same. Doctors too can start the challenge by helping the patients and inspiring other doctors to do the same.”

“I have started a project of reusing water in my house. We face shortage of water in summer but we have not yet seriously thought of reusing water. In my house, I noticed that a lot was water was being wasted by flushing the toilets. I came up with an idea of reusing wastewater from the kitchen and bathroom to be used for flushing toilets, garden etc. and constructed a small tank and some material to filter the water. I now use the recycled water to flush the toilets and for other purposes and now I am saving more than 40% of the water,” he added.

Hegde spent Rs 35,000 for the construction of tanks and pipeline. “With the help of experts, the cost for the project can be reduced. I quote the names of the ZP CEO, DC, MP, MLAs of all 8 constituencies, MLCs Ivan, Harish and Farooq to accept this challenge and call for a revolution to reuse the water. We have young MLAs, let them inspire the people of the district to start this project. I humbly request Prime minister Narendra Modi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister Kumaraswamy to encourage such concepts to save water.”

Dr Sudheer Hegde, Advocate Raghavendra and Entrepreneur Swarna Sundar were also present.
