Madikeri: Ad Firm’s MD Dies after Microlight Plane Crashes near Begur Kolli

Madikeri (SOM): In a tragic incident, the managing director of an advertising company in Bengaluru, who was admitted to a hospital in city for injuries he had sustained when the microlight plane in which he was travelling crashed in Kodagu on Saturday evening, died in the hospital the same night.

The deceased has been identified as Ramesh Rao, managing director of SCION Advertising in Bengaluru.

According to Srimangala police, Ramesh along with pilot Rajiv took off from the Flying Club at Begur Kolli between Srimangala and Ponnampet in southern Kodagu at about 4 pm on Saturday and after going around for an hour was in the process of landing when the pilot noticed two high tension power cables in the way.

The pilot who tried to avoid the power lines, lost control of the aircraft and crashed near the runway resulting in fractures to both the legs of Ramesh while pilot Rajiv also sustained serious injuries.

Ramesh and Rajiv were both rushed to Mysuru, where Ramesh was admitted to Brindavan Hospital, off Kalidasa Road and pilot Rajiv was admitted to another private hospital.

Meanwhile, according to doctors at Brindavan Hospital who spoke to SOM said that Ramesh Rao was brought to the hospital with fractures to both his legs. Everything was stable including his blood pressure and sugar level and surgeries were performed on the injured legs. As the doctors were stitching the wounds, Ramesh suffered a massive heart attack and passed away the same night, sources added.

Srimangala police said that senior officers are in Mysuru to collect information and only after their return a case would be registered.
