Madikeri: Colourful cultural displays, disciplined parades and patriotic spirit marked the Independence Day celebrations held on behalf of the district administration in the old fort premises here on Saturday, Aug 15.
State home minister and minister in charge of the district K J George read out the Independence Day. He detailed the achievements of the state government in terms of benefits to the people and also plans and projected envisaged for the district.
He also recalled the contributions and sacrifices made by the national figures of periods before and after the Independence.
Students and police and others presented an eye-catching parade. Students also displayed dance and other skills. Kodava cultural dances also formed part of the programme.
Achievers were felicitated on the occasion.
