Los Angeles, May 6 (IANS) After receiving mixed responses to her revealing Met Gala outfit, Madonna hit back at critics, saying her fashion choice was to make a statement in support of gender equality.
Madonna, who turned heads at the star-studded event held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit in New York on Monday with her racy outfit, took to Instagram to seemingly hit back at critics, reports aceshowbiz.com.
“We have fought and continue to fight for civil rights and gay rights around the world. When it comes to Women’s rights we are still in the dark ages,” Madonna wrote alongside a photograph of herself.
“My dress at the Met Ball was a political statement as well as a fashion statement,” she added.
The “B***h I’m Madonna” hitmaker wore a custom Riccardo Tisci-designed black Givenchy gown which she teamed with a pair of latex knee-length boots and a silver headpiece for the event.
She flashed her chest which was only covered by lace overlay and black tape. She also revealed her derriere through lacy fabric over a skimpy black leotard.
Madonna covered her arms and thighs in black tape, which is commonly used for sports injuries.
