Making Udupi a Non-Covid District is our Aim – Minister Basavaraj Bommai

Udupi: “There is some good news amid the coronavirus pandemic in the district. While the infection has been spreading, the number of patients recovering from the disease is increasing. Making Udupi a Non-COVID district is our main aim, and we will be successful”, said state Home Minister and also Udupi District Minister In-charge Basavraj Bommai during the press meet held at the DC Office here on June 8.

Addressing the mediapersons Basavraj Bommai said, “So far 12540 tests for the coronavirus have been carried out in Udupi district of which 11566 reports have come negative. Until today the district has registered a total of 947 positive cases. Out of the 948 cases, 98 percent cases were reported from the Maharastra returnees. So far, 274 people have been cured and discharged from the hospital”.

Basavraj Bommai further said, “The Karnataka government has decided to set up a task force at village-level comprising members of the gram panchayats and local govt workers to lead and oversee the efforts against the coronavirus pandemic. The task force will have the Gram Panchayat President as its chairperson and will include not just the other elected panchayat members but also a registered medical practitioner, local health centre functionary, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, village accountant, beat police constable and the leader of local women’s self-help group. The Gram Panchayat Development Officer will serve as the Member Secretary of the task force”.

Each and everyone from the grassroots level, the Anganwadi workers to the officials are working as a team to ensure public health and safety. A government COVID-19 testing lab will start functioning in 10 days in the District Government Hospital premises.
