Male Asiatic Lion Shankar in Mysuru Zoo Dies
Mysuru: A male Asiatic lion, Shankar, aged 8 years and 2 months, which was in Mysuru zoo, has died on Tuesday, May 10.
It had been received from Sakkarbaugh Zoo, Junagadh on March 6, 2011. Since April 30 last, it looked dull and was off-feed. On Monday, it was taken into the squeeze cage and necessary treatment was started.
The Mysuru zoo kept in touch with the Hyderabad Zoo Lion Safari and Shivamogga Lion Safari veterinarians. On May 7, Prof C Ansar Kamran of the department of Medicine, Veterinary College, Hassan was called for expert opinion.
Later on, blood examination revealed that the animal was suffering from liver and kidney problem. The treatment was carried out in accordance with the guidance of Prof Kamran.
All the efforts and treatment to save Shankar went in vain. He died late in the evening on May 9. The staff have mourned the death of their beloved Shankar.
