Malnad College of Engineering , Hassan Alumni Reminiscence Mumbai meet 2016
It is quite common that a human being sometimes or the other generates a desire to go back to his childhood. When one meets his childhood friend, they start recollecting the past and feel happy. It happens so that when you meet your college friends, those days flash continuously on your mind. Just imagine most of the entire class is rejoining after few decades, and the joy there would be. Here in Mumbai, the commercial city of India, which is also known for its mechanical lifestyle, a bunch of old students from one of the leading engineering colleges from Karnataka, the “Malnad College of Engineering, Hassan”, have been working hard to bring together the Alumni of their alma mater, and thus organized an event called “Reminiscence Mumbai Meet 2016” or “Savinenapugalu”.
Being one of the oldest engineering colleges of Karnataka, The Malnad College of Engineering was formed as a joint venture between Government of India, Government of Karnataka and Malnad Technical Education Society, Hassan, I 1960. Spread over 41 acres of land, this college has produced more than 25000 engineers so far, in various disciplines. The college has its students all over the world, excelled in business, service, technological achievements and any other field of their choice. The Vice Chancellor of Vishweshwaraiah Technical University Belagavi, Dr Karisiddappa, Chairman of KPSC T Sham Bhat, famous cricketer JavagalSrinath, Director of CMTI Satish Kumar, Well known businessman from Dubai Harry Moraes, Vice-chancellor of PES University Dr K S Balasubrahmanya Murthy, Principals of various leading Engineering colleges in Karnataka are a few to mention.
The old students of this college are very active and formed an Alumni group called “Malnad College of Engineering Alumni Association (MAA), under which they organise annual alumni meet in Hassan, in addition to many other student supportive activities. In 2016, the old students of 1990 batch, who completed 25 years after coming out of the college as professionals, celebrating their silver jubilee, started a unique program called “Make in MCE”. A fund was created under this banner contributed 1990 batch alumni with a view to supporting the students of the college in completing their projects. They have also started voluntarily guiding the aspiring students in fulfilling their dream projects.
A student of the college, now in the final year, Shesha Prasad created ‘facebook’ type web portal exclusively for MCE Alumni, called ‘justmce.com’. This is perhaps first of its kind portal of any college in the world.
The Alumni of the college settled in Mumbai, doing business or serving leading companies, came together to organise an Alumni meet in Mumbai, in line with the annual alumni meet being held in Hassan every December. Few of the enthusiasts, with leading man Kadengodlu Shankar Bhat, formed a ‘core committee’ of 22 members. The committee started planning the event since last six months and now decided to organise the event on 10th December 2016 at Hotel Ashwith Corporate, Belapur, Navi Mumbai. Many alumni from various parts of the world have already registered their names to participate in the event. Some of them are, Dr KS Jayantha, Principal of MCE, Prof MKG Kumar, Chairman of MAA, Prakash Pai, Vice chairman of MAA, Harry Moraes, businessman from Dubai, Sadiqulla Sohrab first batch alumni, James Mendonca businessman from Dubai, Dr Abdul Sharif Haji, Principal of PA College of Engg, Mangalore, Dr Joseph Gonsalvez principal of St Joseph Engineering college, Mangalore, GokuldasNayak, Jt Director Industry and commerce, GoK, Mangalore, Mohammad Nazir, Commissioner of Mangalore City corporation are few from the 200 alumni attending the event.
The core committee members working hard for the success of this event are:

I am a MCE alumni from 1991 the year of my completion. I speak for those that get compelled to attend to classes conducted by faculty members that hold attendance as a tool to reprimand, rather a teacher should attract students to his classroom. We all know this not be the case. Moreover attendance should not be the means to inviting students to a class room but the content of educational content should be the cause! What becomes questionable is the quality of the faculty which is in my view a sad state of affairs. I may have been successful… Read more »

Wishing the Function Great Success. Congratulations to Shanker Bhat and Team for organizing such an Event.
150 individuals from across the globe,,,,, but groomed from one school, 3days of “savinenapu”, but every day is memorably great in life…………. If I can illustrate,,,,, MCEits have gone around the world and been there in many corners of the globe much more than so called premier institutions of the country in all vocations. It’s already evident that for those who attended the Mumbai meet, we are already looking at the announcement of next meet’s date in some part of the brain which brings the thought of excitement. Looking forward to seeing more young and experienced in Mangalore…. Sudarshan, I&P
