Man applies Online for Patanjali Ayurvedic Dealership, Duped of Rs 3.27 Lakh

Udupi: A man being duped by a fake Patanjali Ayurvedic Distribution company has been reported to the Malpe police station here on August 6.

Pavan Jayakar Kotian from Tenka Nidiyur had applied online for the Patanjali Ayurvedic Distributorship in June 2017. He received an email acknowledging to have received and accepted his application. In the email, they had also provided a WhatsApp to be contacted. When Pavan contacted the caller he was told to deposit Rs 15,500 for membership, Rs 75,000 as registration fees and Rs 1.8 lakh for receiving the Patanjali products. According to their requirements, Pavan deposited the funds through Punjab National Bank.

On July 6, Pavan received a confirmation of the dealership through email. The caller then demanded more money to be deposited which Pavan promptly did. Later when the caller demanded some more funds, Jayakar got suspicious and called the Patanjali executives to inquire about the dealership. He was shocked to learn that the website link, address, Seal and signature of the CEO of Patanjali was misused to open an account in the Punjab National Bank.

Pavan has so far remitted Rs 3.27 lakh via NEFT to the account in Punjab National Bank. A case has been registered under section 420 IPC, 66(C) and 66(d) IT act.
