Mangaluru: An airline passenger was arrested for allegedly misbehaving with a Jet Airways air hostess and for forcing her to take a selfie with him against her will. The incident occurred on a Jet Airways flight from Damam, Saudi Arabia, to Mumbai.
Mohammed Abubakar (29), who claims to be employed with a hotel in Damam was arrested in Mumbai after the air hostess made a complaint and said, “I was walking on board when the passenger (Abubakar) caught my hand and said ‘Chalo na yaar, ek selfie lete hai’. Despite objecting, he repeatedly misbehaved with me during the journey,
According to the report, Abubakar’s antics began after the flight took off from Damam. Recalling the unpleasant experience, the air hostess said that she felt that someone was following her and turned around only to find Abubakar standing behind her. After she took her seat, he continued standing beside her and later, when she got up, he started misbehaving with her. “He crossed the limit by grabbing me by the shoulder and forcefully taking a selfie,” the complaint further reads.
When the air hostess raised her voice, four cabin crew members came to her aid. “Seeing them, Abubakar went to the toilet. He came out after smoking in there. The crew warned him and asked him to hand over his cigarette packet and lighter,” sub-inspector VS Pawar of Mumbai Police was quoted saying.
A probe is on to know how he cleared the security check with an inflammable item like a cigarette lighter. By smoking on board, he endangered several lives, His mobile phone has been seized and will be sent to the forensic sciences laboratory.
Abubakar, who told the police that he had clicked the selfie “for fun” was arrested from the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) and has been booked under the Indian Penal Code’s sections 354 (outraging modesty of women), and 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), and under Aircraft Rules section 25 (safety violations). He is now in judicial custody.
