Man assaulted by unidentified persons at Silvergate, 2 Suspects Held
Mangaluru: A vehicle owner was assaulted by unidentified persons at Silvergate, Kulshekar here on July 7.
The injured has been identified as Umer Farooq (32) from Ualibettu. On July 7, at around 4:30 am, Umer Farooq was transporting mangoes in his goods tempo from Ulaibettu to the Central Market. At Silvergate, Kulshekar, three persons allegedly belonging to the Sangh Parivar came on a motorbike and waylaid the tempo.
They questioned the owner of the Tempo, Umer Farooq who was accompanying the driver, whether he was transporting cattle? Umer said that he was transporting mangoes to the central market. The accused then realizing that Umer belonged to the other faith, abused and pulled him out of the tempo. The accused also snatched Rs 70,000 from Umer.
Smelling danger, the driver of the tempo fled from the spot. The accused then assaulted Ummer with machete and iron rod and fled from the spot. Injured Umer has been shifted to a private hospital in the city.
The Kankanady Town police visited the spot for investigation and taken the tempo to the police station.
Police commissioner Sandeep Patil said that three teams have been formed to trace the accused. The police have also rounded up 30 known trouble makers of nearby areas. CCTV footage is also being examined to trace the accused.
