Man gets life in prison for sexual assault of SC girl
Udupi: After three and half years the Udupi district and Sessions court on February 16 convicted a man for sexually assaulting a woman belonging to the Secluded caste community with life imprisonment and a penalty of Rs 25000.
The convicted Pradeep Poojary hails from Klaya of Karkala Taluk. He was working in a hotel in Mumbai.
In 2014 September 10, while he had been to Karkala, he had followed the victim in his motorbike, dragged her to a field and committed the crime. He had also threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to others.
On September 11, 2014, Karkala rural police arrested the accused and a charge sheet was filed. After cross-examination of 20 witnesses out of the 29, the court announced the verdict on Friday. The case was argued by Public prosecutor Shanthi Bai.
