Nyon (Switzerland), Aug 7 (IANS) English club Manchester United will play Belgium’s Club Brugge in the Champions League play-off round, according to the draw conducted by European football’s governing body UEFA on Friday.
Brugge finished top of the Belgian league last season but were second in the title play-offs, reports Efe.
The first legs of the play-off ties will take place on August 18-19, with the second leg matches on August 25-26.
Southampton face Danish team FC Midtjylland in the Europa League play-off round.
Spanish club Valencia was drawn against French side Monaco in the highly-anticipated encounter while Italy’s Lazio will play against German side Bayer Leverkusen.
Also, Austria’s Rapid Wien has been scheduled to meet Shakhtar Donetsk from Ukraine, while the Kazakh Astana will play against APOEL from Cyprus, and Scotland’s Celtic was pitted against Malmo from Sweden.
Swiss club Basel will play against Israel’s Maccabi Tel-Aviv; BATE Borisov from Belarus against Serbia’s FK Partizan, and the Albanian Skenderbeu versus Dynamo Zagreb from Croatia.
The winners of the Champions League and Europa League play-off rounds will progress to the group stages of their respective competitions.
