Manchester, Sep 5 (IANS) English football club Manchester United has hit back in their war of words with Spanish football giants Real Madrid, stating they had submitted all their paperwork regarding goalkeeper David de Gea’s transfer before deadline.

The English club also said it is Real’s fault that the deal did not go through.

A statement by the English club was released after Real Madrid president Florentino Perez branded United’s conduct in the deal as a “disgrace” and claimed their negotiating team “lacked experience”, reported skysports.com on Friday.

A 29.5 million pound deal for De Gea to join Real broke down at the last minute after the relevant documentation was received by La Liga 28 minutes after the deadline on August 31.

United said they submitted all their paperwork by the midnight cut-off and it is Real’s fault that the deal did not go through.

“The facts speak for themselves and the The Football Association (FA) are prepared to back our case that the documents were in on time,” the statement from Man United said.

“Real seem intent to move the focus away from their own clumsiness this summer. We all like to blame others but if you let one slip through your fingers into the back of the net, then ultimately the culpability is yours,” the statement said.

The 24-year-old Spaniard missed United’s first six games of the English Premier League (EPL) this season.
