Mangaluru: The Milagres Alumni Association Mangalore (MAAM) held the Alumni Reunion – 3, at the college ground here on Saturday, Jan 3. The programme began with an invocation. MAAM president Marcel M D’Souza welcomed the gathering.
An old student of Milagres School Dr Herold Mascarenhas in his speech said, “My 49 year old memories will remain with me forever. There are changes everywhere, the new multi-storey buildings, technology which has made man to reach the Moon, etc. When I was studying in this school, I had a dream to be a doctor. Milagres school has given importance to education and to mould the students accordingly. Whatever I am today, it is because of the education and the moral values which Milagres school had delivered. Service is my main aim and this school has taught me kindness, compassion, moral values, good culture and has guided me to be a good citizen.”
Former principal of Milagres Pre-University College, Fr Valerian Mendonca in his speech said, “I believe that Milagres really stands for miracles. The teachers in Milagres Institutions teach the students with commitment and with a mission, they transform students into great human beings. I feel greater joy to see my students shining before us with great success in life. As a teacher I feel greater joy that my students are also shining all over the world, and carrying the torch of Milagres wherever they go. Milagres Institution is located in the heart of the city. Besides, the students have easy approach and get quality education.”
Retired teachers Herold Monteiro and Gatrude Saldanha were felicitated on the occasion. Old students Dr Herold Mascarenhas, Dolla, Jeffrey D’Souza and Dr Krishna Prasad were also felicitated.
Some of the old students shared their experience in the school campus and thanked their teachers for timely guidance. They said that because of the hard work and dedication of their teachers in moulding the future of students, they have been made better citizens in the society. “Today whatever we are and wherever we are, it is all because of our teachers. They are the makers of better citizens,” they concurred.
Correspondent of Milagres Institution Fr Valerian D’Souza, in his presidential address, congratulated MAA members for attaining the pinnacle of success in their respective fields. He also said that each student has worked hard to achieve goals and succeeded in it by surpassing the challenges and have upheld the values of this great institution. He urged the alumni to inspire the younger generation and future students of the institution to pursue their goals and bring laurels to the institution.
There was a cultural programme by the primary, high school and college students. Praveen Naik compered the programme. Secretary of the MAAM Deepak D’Souza delivered the vote of thanks.
