Mangalurean Sathish K Shetty (47) Dies in a Tragic Fire Accident at Al-Sabriya Refinery-Kuwait
Mangaluru: A resident of Padil, Mangaluru, Sathish Kochu Shetty, aged 47, working at a Oil Refinery in Kuwait, succumbed to injuries on Sunday, 14 June 2020, due to a fire accident that took place on 11 June 2020. Sathish breathed his last after being admitted and getting treatment at a Kuwait hospital, since three days.
As per reports from Kuwait , Sathish who was working in a drilling tower of Al-Sabriya Refinery in Kuwait, died after three days due to burn injuries, after a fire accident at the plant. One more employee working with him was seriously injured, and getting treatment. As per reports of Kuwait Oil Company, the accident took place at dawn on 11 June due to sudden ignition of accompanying gases during drilling operations in the tower, which resulted in a limited fire.
Reports indicate that Sathish Shetty was pronounced dead around 12.30 pm on Sunday, 14 June. Following Sathish’s death, KOC stressed on the keenness of the safety of their workers and the continuity of the Company’s operations, pointing to the formation of a committee to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
Locally speaking to Team Mangalorean, Pratham Shetty, the nephew of Sathish said, “Sathish has been working in Kuwait from the last seven years, and just two years ago he had joined Al-Sabriya Refinery. He is survived by his mother, sister and her husband and their kids here in Mangaluru- and he has a younger brother, his wife and children in Kuwait. Sathish’s younger brother in Kuwait is trying to make arrangements to bring Sathish’s body to Mangaluru by flight, since there is one plane scheduled to Mangaluru from Kuwait on Wednesday, 17 June. If everything goes on well, we will cremate Sathish’s body here in Mangaluru, if not it will be buried in Kuwait. Sathish was a friendly and jovial person, getting along well with everyone. We all will miss him very dearly. May his soul Rest In Peace”.
