Mangaluru: A 16-year-old student committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room at Vagga, Bantwal here on January 8.
The deceased has been identified as Deshak (16), son of late Devanna Nayak, a resident of Vagga, Bantwal.
According to police Deshak was studying in Morarji Desai Residential School and was staying in the hostel. On January 8, he did not go to school. He had told his roommates that he would come to the school after sometime. Later he committed suicide by hanging himself to the ceiling fan.
It is learnt that two years ago his father Devanna had also committed suicide. Deshak was good in studies as well as in extra curricular activities. He was taking part in most of the competitions and has won many prizes. The reason for the extreme step is yet to be ascertained.
Bantwal Rural Police reached the spot and lowered the body. The body was sent for post-mortem. Bantwal rural police have registered the case.
