Mangaluru: A 17-year-old youth drowned in the Belvai Math pond, in Moodbidri here on December 20.
The deceased has been identified as Akash Rai (17), a resident of Baramelu.
According to sources, Akash and his friends had gone for swimming at the Belvai Math Pond. When they were swimming Akash drowned in the pond. His friends tried to rescue him but failed in their efforts.
Later his body was recovered from the pond and sent for post mortem to the MoodbidriGovernment hospital. Akash was studying in 1st year degree in Mahaveer college in Moodbidri. He was the son of Manjunath Rai.
A case has been registered in Moodbidri police station.
