Mangaluru: A 25-year-old woman died, after 10 days of her first delivery at the Wenlock hospital here on May 7.
The deceased has been identified as Poovakka (25), wife of Ganesh, a resident of Ajjavar Sullia.
According to the police Poovakka’s mother said that on April 20, Poovakka was admitted to the Lady Goschen Hospital for delivery. On April 21, she had given birth to a baby boy. After the deliver she was fit and fine.
On May 6, her health deteriorated and she was shifted to the Wenlock hospital. On May 7, at 8:45 am, Poovakka breathed her last. Her husband Ganesh filed a complaint in the Bunder police station about the negligence of the doctor which led his wife’s death.
On May 8, the body was shifted to the Wenlock Mortuary for post-mortem. After the post-mortem the body was taken to the Lady Goschen hospital and a large number of people gathered in front of the gate. They shouted slogans against the doctor and demanded for his immediate arrest and justice.
Speaking to mangalorean.com Poovakka’s aunt Sundari said, “One and half year back my niece was married to Ganesh from Ajjavar Sullia. On April 20, we brought Poovakka to Lady Goschen hospital for delivery. She delivered a baby boy on April 21 through cesarean and she was healthy. On May 6, while she was still in the hospital, all of a sudden she fell sick, she was suffering from leg pain and her legs were swollen. I informed the doctors, they gave her hot water massage but it did not give any relief. When her condition worsened, they shifted her to the Wenlock hospital. On May 7, she breathed her last. Doctors negligence at the Lady Goschen hospital is the main reason for my niece’s death”. She said that a thorough investigation should be done in this case.
The protesters who had gathered at the gate of Lady Goschen hospital, after getting assurance from the police dispersed.
Bunder police have registered a case and investigation is on.
So sad that a Young woman died soon after the delivery.poor child has to grow up without mother.may her Soul rest in peace.It Looks bit not normal she died.may be she had high blood pressure previously?legs were swollen?and pain in legs?looks like she developed Thrombose?why she was there for so Long in Hospital?she was healthy after delivery(caeserean)she was not wearing anti Thrombose strumpfs?and she should have getting Heparin injection for her legpain and swollen legs.I cant say here anything without knowing the reason.but sicher is she had Problems,and noone helped her in time.Heartfelt sympathys to her Family.
very sad.looks like she was not really treated or not diadnosed at right time.Poor child has to grow up without mother.When she had legpain after caeserean ,may be she developed Thrombose and leg was swollen.why did they neglected this?she was lying all the time after delivery?or had previously blood pressure?she remained in Hospital for Long.what does These People do there?such a huge Group?why are they shouting without knowing anything about her?Heartfelt sympathy to her Family.
