Jaison Peter D’Souza of Meramajal Padu is the convicted person. The duplication of currency came to light when on February 21, 2013, he had given a note of Rs 100 at the shop of Chandrahas in Paduperar, in settlement of purchase of two mobile recharge coupons of Rs 10 each.

After he went back with the balance of Rs 80, the shop-keeper found out that it was a counterfeit note. He got Jaison to return to the shop. He was found carrying six similar notes bearing the same serial number. Chandrahas filed a complaint at the Bajpe police station. On investigation, it was found that he was operating from a rented building near the Bajpe bus stand and churning out fake notes by scanning the originals and replicating them with a colour photocopier.

Anant Murdeshwar, the-then sub-inspector at Bajpe registered a case and filed a charge-sheet against Jaison. After hearing the case, district and sessions court, presided by Uma M G, handed out a jail term of three years under IPC sections 420 and 489C. Failure to pay the fine would entail another three months simple imprisonment.

He had been arrested first and had come out on bail. For violation of the conditions of bail, he was re-arrested and sent to judicial custody on July 11, 2014, where he has been lodged ever since.

This guy (Jaison Peter D’Souza) is probably a small fish. The republic of Kaasaragodu is the hub of these anti-national activities sponsored by our green-flag neighbor. Unfortunately, the notorious ‘vote bank’ politics and lack of courage from media have allowed these anti-national elements to operate freely without any fear.
