Mangaluru a Very Important City to be Developed – Minister Baig
Mangaluru: The Minister for Urban Development and Haj, Roshan Baig held a review meeting of the development projects at the Mangalore City Corporation here on August 4.
Later minister Roshan Baig along with MLA J R Lobo, Mayor Harinath and others visited the Thumbay dam.
Speaking to the mediapersons at the Circuit house Roshan Baig said, “After a brief discussion about the development work in Dakshina Kannada district, I have found that the people are facing severe problems due to the single site problems and that people need to go to the Taluk office twice or thrice to get the approval single sites. There are a number of complaints about the harassment faced by the people. I will go to Bengaluru and discuss the issue with the concerned authorities to simplify the single site approval process”.
The minister also said that in Mangaluru we have to make good bus stops and markets. Markets in Kadri, Kankanady, Suratkal, Hampankatta and other places have to be developed. We are preparing the plans and are in the process of doing the feasibility reports of the roads.
Regarding the civic workers, Roshan Baig said that the government is planning to build a ground + 3 housing project at Mahakalipadpu which has already been sanctioned. The estimation of the housing project is also ready. At present, the project is under the tender process. Once the tender process is completed we will start the work.
About the Thumbay dam, the work has been completed but the painting of the gates and the electric work is pending due to the monsoon. Once the season ends we will complete the work.
Under ADB scheme Rs 280 crore have been reserved for water supply and drainage work out of which Rs 160 crore is reserved for supplying water and Rs 120 crore is reserved for the drainage work.
In Suratkal we have reserved 3.5 acres of land for the multi-storey market which will come up and Rs 60 crore has been reserved for the same. A Multi-level parking will be constructed in Hampankatta old bus stand and 1.5 acres of land has been reserved for that. Under providing houses for the poor, the Ashraya Bhagya, we are constructing buildings with ground+3 floors. In the state, there are 11 city corporations and after Bengaluru, Mangaluru is a very important city and our aim is to develop it.
MLA J R Lobo, Mayor Harinath, MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazir, MUDA Chairman Ibrahim Kodijal, Sashidhar Hegde, Lancelot Pinto, Appilatha, Kavitha Sanil and others were also present.
Development of a City can be focused in a ten-fold fashion. City such as Mangalore has already been established with the following broad-based parameters such as :- a) Education and Educational Institutions including Health Sciences, Social Sciences and Engineering. b) Sea Port and Air Port facility with an active network of Railways and Bus transportation c) Tourist attractions such as Temples, Basillicas, Mosques and many other historic sights d) Parks and Recreational spots. e) Most importantly, the people of all cultures, religions with a wide variety of disciplines. f) Shopping Centers, Restaurants, Hotels and several other Handicraft centers.
