Mangaluru: Air Crash Victims Memorial Park to Open Soon – DC Ibrahim

Mangaluru: Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim held a press meet at the DC Court Hall here, on July 17.

Addressing the mediapersons, DC Ibrahim said that a memorial park for the 2010 Air crash victims will be build at the Kuloor burial ground, opposite Kudremukh iron ore company, where 12 unidentified bodies of the victims were buried.

NMPT Superintending Engineer Rajappa said, “A memorial will be built in 90 cents of land which will be also be maintained by the NMPT. The first round of the work has been completed and we are waiting to build a monument for the crash victims. There will be a garden in the park. The total budget for the project is Rs 35 lakh.”

Member of the Architects Guild Mangalore, Nelson Pais suggested that before erecting any monument, it is better to have the contribution of the general public. “If a competition will be held to design a suitable monument, people will take part in the contest and we will get a better design. There can be prizes for the best design. The entries will be invited within a week of time and the same will be published.”

Deputy Commissioner accepted the suggestion and advised to complete the procedure as soon as possible since the Memorial Park has to be opened in October.

President of the Architects Guild Venkatesh Pai, Chairman Planet SKS Sanath Shetty, Airport Director Radhakrishnan, President of Mangalore Air crash victims family association Mohammed Beary and others were also present.
