Mangaluru: Mohammed Rafiq (61), a real estate entrepreneur from Bajpe Karambar, was found dead on the bank of Phalguni near the Pera mosque in Maravoor vicinity on Saturday afternoon.
He had earned a name by having built residential complexes under the banner of ‘313 Builders’. Currently, the work on the extension and new toilets has been in progress. He was at the site to supervise the work earlier on the day. Sources close to him said that he had told his driver that a delegation from Kerala was to arrive there to hand over a donation and asked him to come around 3-30 pm to collect him.
Accordingly, when the driver arrived at the mosque, Rafiq could not be found anywhere around. A search was made all around the premises but there was no use. Calls made to his mobile phone responded with ‘switched-off’ messages.
People gathered and made an extensive search in different directions. Finally, his body was found on the bank of the river in a prone state, facing the ground.
The cause of death is not known. Only a post-mortem examination could reveal the circumstances. The mosque sources said that his final rites would be held there on Sunday, Apr 19.
He is survived by wife, a son and two daughters.
