Mangaluru-Bhatkal KSRTC Volvo bus service begins
Bhatkal: Gopal Poojary Karnataka State Road Transport corporation president and also MLA of Byndoor flagged off the inter-district Bhatkal-Mangaluru KSRTC Volvo bus service here on Sunday, March 5 at Bhatkal.
The corporation will deploy six Volvo buses for now on, with nine trips in each direction totalling 18 trips. The first trip from Mangaluru starts at 6:30 a.m. and the last trip at 3:45 p.m., while from Bhatkal the first trip begins at 6 a.m. and the last trip at 3 p.m.
The bus will leave Mangaluru to Bhatkal at 6:45 a.m., 7:15 a.m., 7:45 a.m., 10:00 am, 10:30 am, 11:00 am, 2:45 pm, 3:15 pm, and 3:45 pm and from Bhatkal to Mangaluru at 6:00 am, 6:30 am, 7:00 am, 10:45 am, 11:15 am, 11:45 am, 2:00 pm, 2:30 pm, and 3:00 pm.
The bus will take three hours to reach the destination and will stop at Surathkal, Mulki, Padubidri, Kapu, Udupi, Manipal, Kundapur, Hemmadi, Trasi, Uppunda, Byndoor and Shirur.
The fares between Mangaluru and Bhatkal have been fixed at Rs 225; Mangaluru-Udupi at Rs 107; Mangaluru-Kundapur at Rs 160; Udupi/Manipal-Kundapur at Rs 65, and Kundapur-Byndoor at Rs 45.
Speaking on the occasion Gopal Poojary Said that the Volvo buses on Mangaluru – Bhatkal route have been introduced for the convenience of the middle-class passengers, he said adding that with the introduction of the Volvo buses, the long-pending demand of the people of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada has been fulfilled.
He called upon the authorities to protect the interests of the passengers. If the service will be successful, we are ready to put more buses on this route, he added.
There are already some private buses from Mangalore to Bhatkal. It would have been better if KSRTC had extended their Volvo service up to Karwar. This would have covered towns like Honnavar, Murudeshwar, Gokarne, etc.
