Mangaluru: Chandra Sekhar Takes Over as City’s Topcop, Assures people friendly policing

Mangaluru: Chandra Sekhar took charge as the new police commissioner, replacing S Murugan at the Commissioner’s office here on January 3, 2016.

Outgoing commissioner S Murugan welcomed the new Commissioner Chandra Sekhar to his Chamber and handed over all the related documents.

M Chandra Sekhar is a 1998 batch IPS officer, initially he was posted to Himachal Pradesh and served as ASP of Shimla, ADC to governor of Himachal Pradesh, worked as a SP of Vilaspur, SP of Mandi District Himachal Pradesh. was Later deputed in Karnataka State where he Worked as SP of Internal Security Division for 3 months. Worked as a Deputy commissioner of Police East Division of Bengaluru city from 2009 to 2012, from 2013 to 2014 worked as Deputy Inspector General of Police Karnataka State Fire & Emergency Services. From 2014-15 worked as Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime).

Speaking to the mediapersons Chandra Sekhar who hails from Andhra Pradesh said, “Maintaining law and order, welfare of the policemen and people friendly policing is my priority.”

He further said, “Policing is my priority, I know the people of Dakshina Kannada are cultured and they do not break the law. Every district has its own speciality. I need sometime to be familiar with the city.”

When asked to elaborate on Policing, he said, “Policing is more to do with the people and to build relationship with the people. From 2013, I am part of Karnataka. I request for cooperation from all the people for maintaining law and order in the district.”

He also said, “I did my B Tech in Aero Space in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) West Bengal and worked for 18 months in Infoysis Technologies Limited (1995-96 December). I always wanted to be a policeman”.

When asked about the communally sensitive DK district, he said, “I need to study and analyze before commenting on the subject”.

When asked about the use of Social media, Chandra Sekhar said, “By Increasing the use of technology in the police department, we will try to reach out to the people through the social media. We will see how it can be institutionalized. Social media can be used for good and bad, if we can come across any misuse of the social media we will take action against the violators according to the law.”

Congratulations to highly qualified and promising new SP.Every crime ,particularly on women and children need to be proactively followed up.Take for example,Burnt body of Mrs Usha Shetty at Ekkar,mutilated body of a lady found in sac…nothing happened..unless every such case is investigated in depth and public informed about it such crimes will continue to occur.Good idea to update every detail on website in every crime..Best wishes..Let us see an ex IITian in action@Mangalore
