Mangaluru: Citizens of Mangalore Hold ‘Paura Sanmana’ to Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji

Mangaluru: Citizens of Mangalore organized a ‘Paura Sanmana’ to Sri VishweshaTheertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math and Vishwaprasanna Thirtha at the Town Hall here on January 3.

Prior to the felicitation programme a procession was held from Sharavu Mahaganapati temple. Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math and Vishwaprasanna Thirthawere carried in a decorated truck to the Venue. Various artistes, bhajan troupes and chende troupes accompanied the procession.

Former Mayor Sashidhar Hegde welcomed the gathering. Felicitation committee member Pradeep Kumar Kalkura delivered the keynote address. Kalkura said that SriVishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math is ascending the ‘Paryaya peetha’ for the fifth time on January 18. He congratulated Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji for ascending the Paryaya Peetha for the fifth time. He also said that Sri VishweshaTheertha Swamiji is a living God, he has always worked for the welfare of the poor and the neglected.

Prof M B Puranik said, “Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji is a living example for all of us. He is living a simple life. Swamiji has started a Go Shala to take care of the abandoned cows. Sri Vishwesha Teertha was born in Ramakunja and he was ordained into Sanyasa at the young age of 8 years in 1938. His vidya guru is Vidyamanya Teertha of Sri Bhandarkeri Math.

The Swamiji assumed first Paryaya, turn to worship Lord Krishna at Udupi, at a young age. During his first Paryaya in 1953, he organized the All India Madhva Conference in Udupi. During his second Paryaya in 1969, he got the Badagumalige in Udupi repaired. During his third tenure as Paryaya Swamiji in 1985, he has got a new hall built in Udupicalled Krishna Dhama. Swamiji is involved in various social service organisations, and is said to have started many educational and social service organisations. He has helped many poor students to pursue their education through Akhila Bharat MadhwaMaha Mandal.

Minister Abhaychandra Jain, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA J R Lobo, MLA MoideenBava, MLC Ivan D’Souza felicitated Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math and Vishwaprasanna Thirtha on the occasion. Shri Jitakamananda Swamiji of Ramakrishna Math, CMD Karnataka Bank Jayaram Bhat, Harikrishna Punaroor, deputy mayor Purushotham Chitrapur, A J Shetty, Ganesh Rao, MCC CommissionerGopalkrishna, Sudhir Shetty, Vijayendra Achar, Kumble Sundar Rao and others were also present.
