Mangaluru: A doctor from Thrissur in Kerala and his brother were arrested by the Kavoor police for abusing and assaulting the public, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, late in the night on Saturday, Apr 11.
The celebrations of Vishnu Yuvaka Sangha’s 12th anniversary were in progress in Derebail-Konchadi and a large number of people had gathered at the place. Many of them were standing on the road and were blocking the traffic.
Dr Shreejit (30), serving in a local hospital, and his brother Kamaldeep (24), said to be a flight engineer in Delhi, were passing by the way in a car and they could not move further because of the crowd. The brothers are said to have abused the crowd and even assaulted two bystanders.
The people around caught hold of them and handed them to the Kavoor police. Even while being interrogated in the police station, they are said to have pushed the computer, threw the police walkie-talkie handset to the floor and tried to assault the cops.
Since they were suspected to have consumed liquor, they were taken taken to Wenlock hospital for medical examination. There also they are said to have continued to be violent and assaulted a constable on duty.
Cases of having obstructed the police while on duty have been slapped on them. They would be produced in court on Monday, said the police.
Kamaldeep, the younger brother, is said to have served as a flight engineer at Delhi airport but had recently given up the job.
What a pity and what a shame that a person holding medical degree should stoop to this kind a crime. Drunken driving in itself is serious crime and to add to that to assault a policeman on duty makes the crime even more serious.
